SigmaRoc PLC (LON:SRC) has launched a pioneering new type of concrete block that does not contain cement.
The ultra-low carbon concrete building block is being launched under a new brand, Greenbloc, and is completely cement-free making it unique in the UK market, SigmaRoc added.
AIM-listed Sigmaroc said by not including cement, the results are a net reduction in embodied carbon dioxide of 77% per concrete block.
That amounts to an average reduction of 1.1kg of eCO2 per concrete block or 2.7 tonnes of eCO2 per average semi-detached house.
Interest in Greenbloc has been strong from building materials merchants said Sigmaroc, which now intends to expand the size range and block specifications.
As more products pass the testing and trialling phase, Sigmaroc added it will update the market on their specifications and commercial potential.
