Goldcore Resources Ltd (CVE:GEM) (OTCMKTS:CZSVF) (FRA:BR2P) is getting into the lithium-ion battery game.
The Vancouver-based company announced Thursday that it is working with leading graphite research and development laboratory ProGraphite GmbH to build several sample lithium-ion batteries using graphite from Goldcore’s Berkwood Graphite deposit in Quebec.
In August 2019, samples were shipped to ProGraphite in Germany and a number of tests were conducted that confirmed the Berkwood samples were coarse and high-grade compared to other forms of graphite available.

Test results also demonstrated its amenability to commercial uses, Goldcore said in a statement. The samples are easily purified to 99.95% using a standard alkaline process instead of the less-sustainable hydrofluoric acid used on the majority of available battery-grade graphite, the company added.
Goldcore can now produce batter-grade graphite using a clean energy process and allow the graphite purchasers to reduce the carbon footprint in their supply chain – a major consideration for producers of electric vehicle batteries.
CEO Tom Yingling told investors that Goldcore is among the first North American graphite companies to actually build sample lithium-ion batteries from its own graphite.
“As a leading specialist in graphite, ProGraphite is one of only a few laboratories in the world that have the technology and expertise to create Goldcore’s first lithium ion battery,” Yingling said in a statement.
“Goldcore’s graphite is unique as it has shown that it can be easily purified without using hydrofluoric acid, which is how the majority of the world’s graphite is purified now. Not only is the Berkwood Graphite ‘greener’, it is also higher grade and coarser compared to generally available graphite from present world producers.”
Goldcore owns 100% of the Berkwood graphite deposit.
