Kingwest Resources drilling at Goongarrie Project discovery returns strong gold grades

The company is confident of making a major discovery at the project with recent drilling focused on multiple targets on and around the shallow salt lakes or on clay pans adjacent to the salt lakes which have inhibited previous exploration e

Kingwest Resources Ltd (ASX:KWR) has received the first assays from its inaugural aircore drilling program at the highly prospective Goongarrie Gold Project (GGP) in Western Australia.

The program consisted of 381 holes for 10,683 metres drilled, 108 of which (for a total of 6,799 metres) were drilled at -60 degrees dip and to blade refusal to fully testing the regolith profile to the top of fresh rock interface.

Assays have been received for 28 angle holes and include intersections of:

  • 6 metres at 17.2 g/t gold from 94 metres within 38 metres at 3.1 g/t from 62 metres to end of hole (blade refusal); and
  • 4 metres at 2.5 g/t from 74 metres within 8 metres at 1.3 g/t from 74 metres.

Assays are pending for the remaining 80 drill holes from the program.

Additionally, 273 wide spaced vertical holes for 3,894 metres were also drilled as ‘geochemical’ holes designed to test in-situ material immediately beneath the widespread transported overburden which is common in the area.

All assays for these holes are pending.

“Expectations well founded”

Kingwest chief executive officer Ed Turner said: “We are very excited with these results from our first pass drilling at Goongarrie which prove that our expectations were well founded and auger well for future success.

“To intersect such high-grade results in our first drill program is very encouraging and justify Kingwest devoting additional drilling to the GGP in 2021.

“I look forward to receiving the remaining drill results over the next few weeks and planning follow up Aircore and RC drilling to better test the mineralised zones and to search for extensions to these zones.”

Regional relevance

The GGP is around 40 kilometres south of the company’s Menzies Gold Project (MGP), 90 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie and sits within the Bardoc Tectonic Zone (BTZ) which extends south to Kalgoorlie and north to Menzies.

The gold mineralisation intersected in the drill holes is in gold bearing Horizon 3, occuring in a sheared ultramafic unit within the lower part of the Black Flag metasedimentary sequence.

This is similar to the situation at the Goongarrie Lady gold deposit 3 kilometres along strike to the north, and it is analogous to the situation at Ardea Resources Ltd’s (ASX:ARL) (OTCMKTS:ARRRF) (FRA:A91) recent Aphrodite North gold discovery 2 kilometres along strike to the south - where the host rock is reported to be a mafic unit within the lower part of the Black Flag metasedimentary sequence.

Drilling ongoing

Additional drilling remains to be completed over several of the best targets not yet tested.

These include targets under the deeper parts of the lake which will require a customised track mounted aircore rig which specialises in drilling on the very soft and wet lake sediments.

This drilling is planned to be completed in the first half of 2021.

Turner added: “Some of our best targets under the lakes remain to be drill tested and we look forward to doing this in the next few months.

“I believe we have a very good chance of making a major discovery within the GGP and it will make a significant addition to our more advanced Menzies Gold Project that is currently undergoing updated MRE’s and a scoping study.”
