England is expected to announce mandatory quarantine in hotels for travellers coming from high-risk countries.
Boris Johnson is set to discuss with ministers on Tuesday but the new rules may be revealed on Wednesday.
The measure would mostly affect UK citizens and residents, since nationals from most foreign high-risk countries are not allowed to enter British grounds.
It will apply to inbound travellers from southern Africa, South America and Portugal because of its ties with Brazil, the BBC reported.
It is understood the ten days in hotel should be paid by the individuals, just like it is required in Australia, which has already implemented such measures.
Currently, most travellers to the UK need to show a negative COVID-19 test taken maximum 72 hours before their entry and are required to self-isolate for ten days in a private accommodation.
