Australian Potash confirms resolution of EPA approval appeal for Lake Wells Sulphate of Potash Project

The WA Minister confirmed that the EPA’s assessment of the proposal was appropriate to establish the risk posed to its social surrounds and has dismissed the appeal.

Australian Potash Ltd (ASX:APC) has received notification by the Office of the Appeals Convenor that the WA Minister for the Environment has issued an appeal determination against the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) board’s recommendation that the Lake Wells Sulphate of Potash Project be approved for development.

The Minister confirmed that the EPA’s assessment of the proposal was appropriate to establish the risk posed to its social surrounds and has dismissed the appeal.

Additionally, the Minister has recommended that one of the conditions recommended by the EPA in its recommendation be amended and will begin consultation with decision-making authorities as to whether the proposal may be implemented under section 45(1) of the EP Act.

“Pleased” to advise shareholders of the resolution

Managing director and CEO Matt Shackleton said: “We are pleased to advise shareholders of the resolution of the EPA Report and Recommendations appeal.

“We have been thorough and rigorous in ensuring relevant studies and consultation has occurred throughout the approvals pathway and look forward to the final Ministerial statement once the Minister has completed the consultation process.”

The company’s earn-in joint venture (EIJV) partner St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM) has continued to expand the footprint and tenor of gold mineralisation at the Lake Wells Gold Project, with aircore results confirming the strong potential for the project to host a large gold deposit.
