Greatland Gold says early works have begun at Havieron project

The firm's CEO Gervaise Heddle said the works marked “a major milestone" for the project in Western Australia

Greatland Gold PLC (LON:GGP) said early works activities have commenced at its Havieron project in Western Australia.

In a statement, the AIM-listed firm’s chief executive Gervaise Heddle said the works marked “a major milestone for the project” and that earth moving activities to prepare for the construction of the box cut and decline have begun.

He added that the firm also looked forward to advancing the 2021 growth drilling programme at Havieron, where mineralisation “remains open in multiple directions outside the initial inferred mineral resources estimate”.

The early works are being undertaken by Newcrest Mining, which operates Havieron under a joint venture agreement with Greatland, while work is also ongoing to finalise a water management plan for the programme as well as to progress further approvals and permits which will be required to commence development of any operating underground mine and associated infrastructure.

Shares in Greatland rose 2.6% to 29.3p in mid-morning trading on Thursday.
