Tocvan Ventures names Rodrigo Calles-Montijo as new director and Mexico exploration and corporate development manager

The company is advancing the Pilar gold-silver project in Sonora state in Mexico and Calles-Montijo has been an "integral" part to the success of operations there

Tocvan Ventures Corp (CSE:TOC) (FRA:TV3) said Wednesday that experienced mining industry executive Rodrigo Calles-Montijo will join its board of directors and the group's management team as exploration and corporate development manager, responsible for Mexico.

The geologist has over 30 years' experience and he has worked for the likes of Rio Tinto (LON:RIO) and SRK Consulting. He has also acted as an independent consultant.

Tocvan is advancing its Pilar gold-silver project in Sonora state in Mexico and Calles-Montijo has been an "integral" part to the success of operations there so far, noted the company.

"This addition to the Tocvan Team I regard as a major benefit to Tocvan Ventures Corp," Derek Wood, Tocvan's chief executive, told investors in a statement.

"Mr Calles-Montijo’s experience and network within the Mexican mining sector will be of great benefit as we continue to advance the Pilar property, while researching, evaluating and negotiating additional Mexican opportunities."

Last month, Tocvan said it was planning a second phase drill program at Pilar early in 2021 as it announced that it had completed a maiden program.

The first phase saw 1,505 metres (m) of reverse circulation (RC) drilling undertaken in nine holes, with results expected early in the new year. The second phase of work will aim to test deeper targets and continue the expansion of the known mineralized trends.

The company also has the Rogers Creek project in Southern British Columbia, which, it says, shows promise for a "potential porphyry copper-gold discovery".

Shares in Toronto nudged up 5.13% to C$0.41 each.
