Melkior Resources Inc (CVE:MKR) (OTCMKTS:MKRIF) (FRA:MEK1) told investors Tuesday that the operator at the Carscallen gold project in Ontario - Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd - had expanded the drill program there to 4,500 metres (m), with rigs due to start turning again there early this month.
So far, 3,150m were completed before the holiday break, reported Melkior, and the key goals of the work this year are to test the system both for sustained gold grades at depth and for continuity up-dip and northwest-southeast along strike of previously encouraging drill assays.

Carscallen spans 320 claims over 47 square kilometres (sq km) and lies in the Abitibi Greenstone belt, 25km west of the mining city of Timmins. It has good access and infrastructure.
In September last year, Melkior unveiled a landmark deal with Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSE:KL) (NYSE:KL) (FRA:NGDA), which sees the major miner advance the project as operator, with the right to earn up to a 75% stake by committing a minimum of C$3 million in the first two years with the potential of C$110 million in work commitments over the next five to ten years.
The latest drill program will focus on the 800m long north-westerly trending Zam Zam - Shenkman trend, which has already produced multiple high-grade intercepts.
Intersection highlights from last year's drill programs included 23.5 grams per ton (g/t) gold over 8m, 430m vertically below surface from the south edge of the Shenkman zone.
Junior Melkior wants to make the next major gold discovery in Canada. It boasts a diverse portfolio of gold and base metal projects in major mining camps in Ontario and Quebec.
