IG Group Holdings PLC (LON:IGG) has said that net trading revenues in the first half of the year will be around two thirds higher than last year after two similarly strong quarters of growth.
The online trading broker reported that active client numbers in the quarter rose to 207,000 in its second quarter to end-November, 2020, up from 201,500 in the first quarter and 133,800 a year ago.
The FTSE 250-listed group said that the elevated trading volumes across the larger group led to revenue of around £416mln for the half-year, with a figure of £207mln for the second quarter only slightly lower than the £209mln in the first.
Strong client acquisition was the key to its much larger active client base, IG added, though rivals CMC Markets and Plus 500 have also seen similarly strong growth amid the higher trading volatility of financial markets during 2020, initially sparked by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
