Amazon Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is to reward staff in the UK with a bonus of £300 for full-time employees and £150 for part-timers.

The payouts are part of a bonus package of US$500mln across all of its global operations and will be paid to those working through December.

Online trading is being tipped to rocket this year with many shops hit by coronavirus restrictions.

Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said this holiday period would be unique and that he was "grateful to our teams who continue to play a vital role serving their communities".

This payout will take the amount handed by Amazon in bonuses and incentives in 2020 to US$2.5bn, said Clark, which included another US$500mln ‘thank you’ bonus earlier this year.

Amazon has come under intense scrutiny especially in the US about its working practices during the pandemic and whether it is doing enough to protect staff from the virus.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is widely acknowledged as the world’s richest man with an estimated fortune of US$186bn, an increase of US$71bn since the start of the year.
