Fireweed Zinc increases search area at Boundary West zone after new discoveries indicate potential for large deposit

The discovery of zinc mineralization in the lower sequence rocks, in addition to the surrounding wide intervals of vein mineralization, greatly expand the search area with strong discovery potential

Fireweed Zinc Ltd (CVE:FWZ) announced it is widening its search area at the Boundary West target due to “strong discovery potential.”

The decision to expand the search area at Boundary West comes after Fireweed drilled two distinct systems – an upper and lower sequence of stratiform zinc mineralization – overprinted by wide intervals of vein-hosted mineralization.

The discovery of zinc mineralization in the lower sequence rocks, in addition to the surrounding wide intervals of vein mineralization, greatly expand the search area with strong discovery potential, the Vancouver-based explorer told investors Tuesday.

Boundary West is open in all directions with a variety of mineralization styles, increasing potential for discovery, according to Fireweed’s CEO Brandon Macdonald.

“(Even) though we are at the initial stages of discovery, the early indications of multiple styles of mineralization across wide intervals point to the potential for a very large deposit at Boundary Zone,” Macdonald said in a statement.

The potential to discover a large deposit is strengthened by the geology at the new discovery, according to Macdonald.

“Historically, exploration in the district focused on the upper sequence Devonian age rocks where the Tom and Jason stratiform deposits are situated,” the CEO said.

“This new discovery clearly demonstrates that the lower sequence Ordovician-Silurian age rocks are also host to significant stratiform zinc mineralization. This along with the wide zones of vein mineralization at Boundary West indicate great potential throughout the property for additional discoveries in lower sequence rocks that have seen little exploration effort in the past.”

Boundary West sits on Fireweed’s district-scale Macmillan Pas project in Yukon, Canada. Earlier this week the company signed two separate agreements to acquire significant large claim blocks on the western extensions of Boundary Zone and the Fertile Corridor.
