Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has received encouraging new one-metre downhole sample fire assay results from drilling at Gordons Dam prospect within the Gordons Gold Project in WA’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Region.
There were 55 reverse circulation (RC) holes for 4,385 metres completed at Gordons Dam to test for extensions immediately adjacent to and along strike from mineralisation hosted within shallow oxidised palaeochannel sediments, felsic porphyry and mafic rocks.
Assays have been received for the final 36 holes for 3,089 metres with best results including:
- 1-metre at 5.75 g/t gold within 2 metres at 2.96 g/t from 44 metres; and
- 1-metre at 4.04 g/t within 4 metres at 1.61 g/t from 33 metres and 1-metre at 2.93 g/t within 19 metres at 0.54 g/t from 41 metres.
“Presence of significant gold system”
Yandal managing director Lorry Hughes said: “The RC results from Gordons Dam continue to demonstrate the presence of a significant gold system and we intend to continue aggressive exploration to define the economic potential of the discovery.
“The pending results from the diamond core and aircore programs will be important to guide the next phases of exploration drilling particularly at depth beneath the most mineralised parts of the system discovered to date.
“The first diamond hole is currently at about 200 metres depth with the final depth planned to be close to 300 metres.
“A second hole will be completed in late November and then follow-up RC drilling is scheduled to commence in early December.
“It is certainly an exciting time for the company as we look to uncover a sizeable gold deposit in a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction globally.”
High-grade results
Other results from the assays include:
- 1-metre at 4.25 g/t within 11 metres at 1.25 g/t from 52 metres;
- 1-metre at 4.55 g/t within 3 metres at 1.75 g/t from 46 metres; and
- 1-metre at 5.05 g/t within 5 metres at 1.65 g/t from 38 metres.
Gold mineralisation was returned from several end-of-hole (EOH) samples including:
- 1-metre at 0.48 g/t gold within 9 metres at 0.17 g/t from 69 metres to EOH;
- 1-metre at 0.30 g/t from 71 metres to EOH; and
- 1-metre at 0.44 g/t from 41 metres to EOH.
Drilling at prospect
At Gordon Dams, a consistent bedrock gold trend has been intersected over a 700-metre strike length which is open to the southeast and at depth.
A 10,000-metre aircore drilling program to test for extensions to the prospect and a number of regional targets was completed at the end of October.
Diamond core drilling to assess the structural aspects and controls to the known mineralisation is underway with results pending.
This oriented diamond program will provide important geological and structural information to improve interpretation of the mineralisation controls to the deposit and to confirm that the current drilling orientation is appropriate for the known geometry of the mineralisation.
Next steps
Key exploration activities are planned during the December and March quarters at the Gordons project:
- Receive and review pending results from the aircore program and compile a maiden mineral resource estimate for Gordons Dam;
- Conduct sighter metallurgical test-work on Gordons Dam mineralised intervals; and
- Complete diamond drilling and sampling for GDDD001 and 2 and start 10,000-metre follow-up RC program.
