Fenix Resources strengthens board with iron ore expertise by appointment of non-executive director

The company’s 100%-owned flagship Iron Ridge Iron Ore Project is a premium DSO deposit which hosts a JORC resource and is around 490 kilometres by road from Geraldton port.

Fenix Resources Ltd (ASX:FEX) has strengthened its board with considerable iron ore industry experience through the appointment of Warwick Davies as a non-executive director.

Davies has worked in the iron ore, steel and minerals industries for more than 50 years, initially employed by BHP Steel in their Newcastle and Whyalla steel works.

He is an industrial chemist with a strong economics background and his iron ore experience was developed with the Robe River organisation until 2001 when a takeover by Rito Tinto resulted in a career change.

Davies then became a consultant and provided advice to Mt Gibson Iron and Atlas Iron during their respective start-ups.

He has extensive experience in all commercial aspects of the iron ore market, including freight, supported by his strong technical marketing background.

Vast experience

Fenix managing director Rob Brierley said: “Warwick has a vast amount of experience in the iron ore industry and provides Fenix management with a solid sounding board on product marketing, logistics and quality control.

“I welcome him on board and have no doubt that he will add significant value as we enter the ranks of iron ore producers over the coming months.”

Iron Ridge road transport contract

Fenix recently executed a contract for the road transport component of its Iron Ridge Project in Western Australia with Fenix Newhaul Pty Ltd, an incorporated joint venture company between Fenix and Newhaul Pty Ltd.

The contract is valued at around $360 million for the estimated six-year life-of-mine, based on a terminal gate diesel price ex-Geraldton of around $1.34 per litre with the current diesel price being around $1.05.

This arrangement is due to start in December 2020, in line with the current project development timeline.
