Infinity Lithium strengthens in-country team in Spain with head of institutional relations appointed

Cayetano Polo is the former Ciudadanos Extremadura regional party leader and has held major positions regionally and locally, including Provincial Deputy of Cáceres.

Infinity Lithium Corporation Ltd (ASX:INF) has appointed Cayetano Polo as its new head of institutional relations in Spain, further reinforcing the evolution of the company’s in-country management and focus on local representation to support the San José Lithium Project.

Polo has held significant political positions at regional and local levels, most recently as the leader of Extremadura regional political party Ciudadanos.

He was nominated as the party’s candidate for the President of Extremadura in the 2019 regional elections.

This key move follows the recent appointment of highly credentialed lithium expert, Jon Starink, who has joined the company's board and assumed an executive management role as chief technical officer.

“Source of prosperity”

Against a backdrop of the Ministry of Ecological Transition’s recently announced draft national Energy Storage Strategy, Polo said: "It is very satisfactory to start this collaboration with Infinity Lithium to promote a project that will be a source of prosperity, employment and wealth for Cáceres, Extremadura and for the whole of Spain.

"This project represents an opportunity to industrially transform Cáceres and Extremadura, since we are talking about one of the irreplaceable materials for the 'green revolution' in Europe creating employment and wealth, and allowing a transition from fossil fuel to sustainable energy.”

Commercial experience

Polo has commercial experience and knowledge, specialising in internationalisation processes and the development of management skills in the industrial, construction and engineering sectors.

With more than 20 years of experience as an engineer and business development director, both in Spain and internationally, he holds an MBA from the Escuela de Organización Industrial and in recent years has acted as a professor-collaborator on Leadership at the Cerem Business School and the IMF Business School.

“Ideally suited” to project

Infinity's managing director and CEO Ryan Parkin said: “It’s a privilege to attract a representative of Cayetano’s calibre to the project and his appointment further reflects the efforts undertaken to assemble a world-class team in corporate, technical and institutional spheres.

“Beyond his political experience that will help us navigate through the processing of the necessary permits and licences, his past experiences and engineering background are ideally suited to the nature and characteristics of the San José Valdeflórez project."

He currently resides in Cáceres and serves in local government prior to his ascent to regional leader of Ciudadanos.

His appointment as councilman in 2015 and nomination as a candidate to the Cáceres was followed by taking office as Provincial Deputy of Cáceres in 2018.
