Airtel Africa PLC - Airtel Africa declares interim dividend after strong half-year

Airtel Africa PLC (LON:AAF) has declared an interim dividend after posting strong half-year results but has tweaked its policy going forward.

The board proposed a distribution of US$1.5¢ per share, in line with a new policy of raising the dividend by 5-9% annually.

In the six months to September 30, revenue jumped 11% to US$1.8bn, though profit before tax dropped 11% to US$281mln due to higher finance costs.

The provider of telecommunications and mobile money services said its customer base grew by 12% to 116.4mln.

The firm focused on its strategy of expanding distribution in the rural areas, investing in its network and increasing 4G coverage, as well as benefitting from the fact it provides an essential service to consumers.
