Westminster Group to protect Westminster under new security contract

The project includes the removal of existing systems and the installation of new advanced X-Ray screening at the Palace of Westminster

Westminster Group PLC (LON:WSG) said its technology division has been awarded a contract to replace and maintain security screening equipment at the Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament.

The security solutions firm said the contract will begin on October 1, 2020, and will run for an initial duration of five years, although this may be extended. The project includes the removal of existing systems and the installation of new advanced X-Ray screening to screen people and baggage entering Parliament, together with ancillary services.

The value of the contract will not exceed £1.8mln, Westminster said, subject to what services are provided over the life of the project.

“Whilst we operate worldwide, it is always pleasing to add to our growing portfolio of high-profile contracts nearer to home, which includes clients such as Holyrood, the Scottish Parliament and other government bodies. I am delighted therefore that Westminster has been selected to provide security screening and maintenance services to the Palace of Westminster, being the iconic home of the UK Parliament. I am equally delighted to have scored so highly in the assessment”, Westminster Group chief executive Peter Fowler said in a statement.

"With the Palace of Westminster being such an important building and the nature of the services involved, the project required careful planning and an innovative approach to the various challenges involved. Securing this latest high-profile contract is a testament to our agility, expertise and professionalism", the CEO added.
