Symphony Environmental’s biodegradable plastic used for airport security bags

The 100ml security bags will be trialled at airports in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton operated by AGS Airports Ltd

Symphony Environmental Technologies PLC (LON:SYM) said its d2w biodegradable plastic technology has been incorporated into a new 100ml security bag that will be trialled at airports in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton operated by AGS Airports Ltd.

AIM-listed Symphony said the switch to oxo-biodegradable security bags is the latest initiative introduced to help reduce AGS's carbon footprint, with the operator having signed a commitment to achieve net zero emissions for the carbon under their control by 2050. The bags have been introduced by Symphony in partnership with Enviro-point, a subsidiary of airport service company Luggage-point.

The company added that the security bags using d2w will not create persistent microplastics if they end up in the open environment as litter, while also accelerating the process of degradation compared to normal plastic.

"We are delighted Enviro-Point has embraced d2w as their technology of choice for the new oxo-biodegradable 100 ml security bag, supplied to AGS Airports Ltd, because it allows passengers to keep using the best product for the job, without the environmental consequences associated with plastic", Symphony chief executive Michael Laurier said in a statement.
