Codemasters delays release of DiRT 5

DiRT 5, an off-road racing game, will now be released on November 6, later than the originally scheduled date of October 16

Codemasters Group Holdings PLC (LON:CDM) has said DiRT 5, the latest edition of its off-road racing video game, will be released on November 6, later than its original release date of October 16.

The game developer said the revised launch date will allow it to release all versions of the game in a shorter timeframe, with the next generation of video game consoles also expected for the holiday season.

Codemasters noted that the later launch date will have “no impact” on its financial expectations.

"DiRT 5 has received widespread critical acclaim, culminating with the game receiving the gamescom 2020 Best Racing Game Award on 30 August. The revised launch date will allow us to take advantage of the next-generation console launches which are expected in time for the holiday season", Codemasters chief executive Frank Sagnier said in a statement.

Despite the delay, analysts at Liberum Capital, which rate Codemasters at 'buy' with a 435p target price, said in a note on Monday that the update had "no impact" on their forecasts, assuming that the release of DiRT 5 accounted for "less than 15%" of their £120mln revenue forecast for the firm's 2021 financial year.

Investors also seemed unphased, with the shares rising 1.7% to 378.2p in late-morning trading.
