Hutchison China MediTech starts phase II study for liver cancer treatment

HMPL-453 is a novel small molecule inhibitor targeting certain receptors that drive tumour growth

Hutchison China MediTech Limited (LON:HCM) announced it has started a Phase II study of HMPL-453 on patients with liver cancer.

HMPL-453 is a small-molecule inhibitor targeting fibroblast growth factor receptors, which are proteins already present in humans that have been found to drive tumour growth when not working properly.

The trial will evaluate the efficacy, safety and the movement of the candidate in the body of patients with advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma that had failed at least one line of systemic therapy.

Shares advanced 2% to 510p on Thursday at the opening bell.
