Balfour Beatty says Gammon venture lands £1.27bn airport expansion contract in Hong Kong

It is Gammon's largest-ever single contract, the company said

Balfour Beatty plc (LON:BBY) told investors its Gammon joint venture company has landed a new £1.27bn contract to work on the expansion of Hong Kong International Airport’s Terminal 2.

Gammon, a 50:50 partnership with Asian conglomerate Jardine Matheson, will be responsible for the expansion of the main Terminal 2 building and construction of interconnecting bridges, mechanical and electrical works as well as associated viaducts and roads.

The terminal expansion project is part of Hong Kong airports ‘Three-runway System’ project which is intended to allow arrivals and departures from one terminal and will increase overall passenger capacity.

"This award marks Gammon's second significant contract for the Airport Authority Hong Kong this year and the largest single contract ever awarded to Gammon,” said Balfour chief executive Leo Quinn in a statement.

Earlier this year, Gammon won a £760mln contract to build tunnels and an automated people mover and baggage handling system.

In London dealing, Balfour Beatty shares gained 3.4p or 1.44% to trade at 239p.
