Burberry PLC (LON:BRBY) has launched its first branded coronavirus facemasks, but coronavirus (COVID-19) protection comes at a price.
The new masks cost £90 each and are available in the company’s famous, brown, red and black check pattern and also in pale blue.
Burberry is among the first major clothing companies to launch a COVID-19 specific product.
Fashion companies thus far have shied away from items specifically geared towards COVID-19 on fears of being accused of profiteering and trivialising the pandemic.
Those that have, such as Halpern, Mulberry and Rixo, have all done so on a not-for-profit basis with any profits from mask sales going to charity.
Burberry said 20% of the selling price will go to the Burberry Foundation Covid-19 Community Fund, a charity it set up in April
The mask is made from spare fabric and contains antimicrobial technology the FTSE 100-listed group said.
