Computacenter higher as home working boom lifts demand for IT equipment

The tech firm said demand from home workers had helped to offset its more "quiet" industrial clients

Computacenter PLC (LON:CCC) said its adjusted pre-tax profit in the first half of 2020 has “turned out to be substantially ahead” of the prior year as a boom in home working drove demand for IT equipment.

For the period to June 30, 2020, the tech group said its performance had been “considerably helped” by the demand from home workers, which had offset its “quiet” industrial clients.

The firm added that its customers had turned to its services offerings during the period, which it described as “challenging and demanding” for corporate IT functions.

As a result of the strong performance, Computacenter said the uncertainty in its markets has been reduced for the second half of 2020, and that while the year was still difficult to predict it now expected 2020 to be “a year of material progress” for the group.

The update sent the company’s shares up 8.2% to 1,878p in early deals on Wednesday.
