Talon Metals set for geophysical work at Tamarack to identify more high grade targets outside the current resource

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has granted the company the permit required for the work

Talon Metals Corp (TSE:TLO) (OTCMKTS:TLOFF) said it is set to begin geophysical work at its Tamarack nickel-copper-cobalt project, in Minnesota in the US, in a bid to identify more high-grade drill targets outside the resource area.

In a statement on Wednesday, the group said the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) has granted the company the permit required for the work.

It comes after Talon's winter 2020 exploration program's surface electro-magnetic (EM) survey successfully identified a continuous string of anomalies to the south of the resource along a 1 kilometre (km) path. Notably, these were at a depth consistent with the high-grade mineralization found in the resource area.

Talon now aims to run the geophysical survey continuously from the resource area at the Tamarack Zone heading north over the 221 Zone, which lies 1.6 km north of the delineated resource area.

Here, the firm previously hit 1.63 meters of 9.33% nickel, 5.14% copper, 0.18% cobalt, 3.64 g/t platinum group elements (PGEs) and 0.71 grammes per tonne (g/t) gold starting at 702.04 meters in one hole and even further north over the 264 Zone, where it hit 0.25 meters of 9.95% nickel, 5.74% copper, 0.16% cobalt, 2.46 g/t PGE's and 0.32 g/t gold starting at 539.04 meters in another hole.

"We feel extremely fortunate to be in a position to continue with exploration work at the Tamarack Project, given (coronavirus) COVID-19," said Brian Goldner, head of exploration for Talon, who is on full-time secondment from Rio Tinto PLC.

"We have implemented the necessary protocols to ensure a safe working environment at Tamarack and thank the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for granting us the necessary permit to continue with geophysical work at Tamarack," he added.

Talon is in joint venture with mining titan Rio Tinto (LON:RIO) on the high-grade Tamarack Nickel-Copper-Cobalt project in Minnesota, USA, comprised of the Tamarack North Project and the Tamarack South Project. Talon has an earn-in right to acquire up to 60% of the project.

Talon shares nudged up in Toronto to C$0.14 each.
