BHP appoints CFO of Australian biotech as new finance boss

David Lamont will join the mining firm in December, returning to the group after previously serving as CFO for the company’s carbon stell materials and energy coal businesses between 2001 and 2006

BHP Group PLC (LON:BHP) said David Lamont, the chief financial officer of Australian biotech firm CSL Limited (ASX:CSL), will join the mining firm as its new finance boss in December.

The FTSE 100 group said Lamont will take over as CFO from December 1, 2020, replacing Peter Beaven who will step down from the position on November 30 but will support Lamont with the handover until early 2021 when he will leave the company to pursue personal ambitions.

Lamont is no stranger to BHP, having previously served as CFO for the company’s carbon steel materials and energy coal businesses between 2001 and 2006.

"David has built a strong track record of financial management with publicly traded multinational organisations over many years. He will bring broad global experience across a diverse range of industries, including mining, deep financial knowledge and a clear focus on delivering strong results for the company and shareholders. I welcome David to BHP and look forward to him joining the team", said BHP chief executive Mike Henry in a statement.

"I am delighted to rejoin one of the best companies in the world. BHP has strong values and a robust financial position, making this an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that can generate returns to shareholders over the long term and make a positive difference to local communities and global markets. I look forward to working with Mike and the team", Lamont said.

BHP shares ticked up 0.4% to 1,654p in early deals on Wednesday.
