Cineworld Group PLC (LON:CINE) has said it expects all of its cinemas to have reopened by the end of July with venues in the UK and US starting to show films again from July 10.
This will coincide with the release of several blockbuster films, it said, including Tenet and Mulan, which have now been confirmed for release in the coming weeks.
In a statement, Mooky Greidinger, the FTSE 250-listed firm's chief executive said: "We are thrilled to be back and encouraged by recent surveys that show that many people have missed going to the movie theatre.
“With a strong slate confirmed for the coming weeks, including among others Tenet, Mulan, A Quiet Place Part II, Wonder Women 1984, Black Widow, Bond, Soul, Top Gun Maverick and many more, the entire Cineworld team remains committed to being 'the best place to watch a movie'”.
All 787 Cineworld cinemas, in ten territories which includes 542 sites in the US and 99 in the UK, have been closed since March.
Some countries will reopen during the last week of June, with all theatres expected to be opened again over the course of July.
Cineworld said it had made a number of operational changes to enable cinemagoers and staff to be safe.
“We have updated our booking system to ensure social distancing within and throughout our auditoriums; adapted our daily movie schedules to manage queues and avoid the build-up of crowds in our lobbies,” it said.
Cineworld added the caveat that its opening schedule needs to be agreed with all of the authorities where it operates.
