Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) shares rallied around 12% in Friday’s dealing as it was revealed that activist investor Cevian Capital had built a stake in the company.
Cevian meanwhile revealed it had been following Pearson closely for several years.

In a Reuters report, Cevian managing partner Christer Gardell was quoted: “The company has a collection of leading businesses in attractive markets, but several of these businesses have yet to deliver on their full potential.
“Based on our analysis, we see no reason Pearson’s businesses shouldn’t outperform their competitors, and produce attractive, growing and predictable returns.
“This will require first-rate decision-making and robust execution.”
