Surface Transforms to make brake discs for Koenigsegg hybrid hypercar

The £5mln contract on the 1,700 horsepower hybrid-electric supercar will kick in when production begins in mid-2022

Surface Transforms -

Surface Transforms PLC (LON:SCE) will be the sole supplier of carbon ceramic brake discs for the world’s first four-seater ‘hypercar’.

The £5mln contract on the 1,700 horsepower hybrid-electric Koenigsegg Gemera will kick in as production begins in mid-2022 and run to mid-2017.

The AIM-listed company said it expected to generate roughly £1mln each year from its 2023 financial year.

Koenigsegg designed the Gemera but the supercar will be manufactured by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS).

“This contract is now the third award from Koenigsegg and again demonstrates that when we win an initial contract with a customer we can achieve follow on business,” said Surface Transforms chief executive Kevin Johnson.

He added: “We are also particularly pleased that this is another example of the importance of weight reducing carbon ceramic discs in electric vehicles, whether BEVs or hybrids.”

Shares in Surface Transforms shot up 16% to 18.9p on Monday morning.
