Wizz Air adds 50 new routes, including Italy and Cyprus

The budget airline was one of the first to restart flights after initial coronavirus groundings

Wizz Air Holdings -

Wizz Air Holdings PLC (LON:WIZZ) said it is adding more than 50 new routes to Italy, Cyprus, Ukraine and Albania from July.

The Eastern Europe-focused airline said from 1 July it will open four new bases deploying 11 aircraft on these routes.

Chief executive József Váradi said the company sees “the potential to re-stimulate demand for low-cost travel and contribute to the vital recovery of tourism in these markets”.

The budget airline was one of the first to restart flights after initial coronavirus groundings and said it has new health and safety protocols designed to ensure that our customers and crew can fly safely.

Váradi added that Wizz's low-cost model and solid balance sheet "provide a significant competitive advantage in the current environment, while also making us a long-term structural winner in the aviation sector".

Next Wednesday, FTSE 250-listed group is due to publish a first-quarter update, having guided to €340-360mln of net profit before exceptional items.
