EKF Diagnostics Holdings PLC (LON:EKF) announced it is in the final stages of establishing an additional production line for a sample collection device.
The PrimeStore MTM was designed in 2006 to reduce risk of infection when transporting samples, in preparation for a worldwide pandemic.
The AIM-listed firm has seen a spike in demand for the device during the coronavirus outbreak and, as of mid-May, is to produce an additional 12,500 sample collection tubes a day in its plant in Wales.
Production will be ramped up in Germany thereafter, the medical equipment manufacturer said.
“Whilst the majority of these kits that we make are being sold and used in volume across the US, the sample collection kits are currently under review for use in the UK and our new manufacturing capability in Penarth will allow us to readily supply an effective tool for supporting the ramp up in COVID-19 testing which is urgently needed in the UK,” said chief executive Julian Baines.
