Proactive weekly mining highlights: Ariana Resources, NQ Minerals, Kavango, Berkeley Energia, Power Metals ...

There was plenty of action in the small-cap mining scene over the past week

Ariana Resources PLC (LON:AAU) this week reported what it says is a “significant” increase in the mineral resource estimate for its Kiziltepe mine in Turkey. The AIM-listed explorer said the updated estimate increased the resource at the site by 25% to around 321,000 ounces of gold and 5mln ounces of silver. The increase also represents a 72% uplift over the feasibility study resource on an undepleted gold only basis.

Kavango Resources PLC (LON:KAV) shares jumped higher on Thursday as the explorer highlighted progress at key projects in recent months. In an update, the group said its flagship Botswana exploration assets continue to advance and it noted that there has so far been minimal disruption as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as it had already focused work on desktop-based analysis and modelling.

Berkeley Energia PLC (LON:BKY) highlighted the strengthening of uranium prices amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic turmoil. In a quarterly update, the Spanish mine developer noted that the uranium price is up by around 30% in the year to date as firms such as Kazatomprom and Cameco have flagged supply disruption.

NQ Minerals PLC (AQUIS:NQMI, OTCQB:NQMLF) unveiled a significant expansion of resources at the Barnes Hill nickel project, as lower grade material is folded into estimates. The new resource now stands at 25mln tonnes, at 0.6% nickel and 0.05% cobalt, up from 14mln tonnes.

Bacanora Lithium PLC (LON:BCN), a lithium exploration and development company, announced the appointment of Graeme Purdy, chief executive officer of Ilika PLC (LON:IKA) as an independent non-executive director of the company with immediate effect.

In a flick of a switch within the normal timelines of the resource sector Kincora Copper Ltd (CVE:KCC) revealed it has built a strategic position in Australia’s foremost porphyry belt, the Lachlan Fold Belt in Central West New South Wales, to complement its strategic position in Mongolia’s Southern Gobi.

Power Metal Resources PLC (LON:POW) said that four drill targets have been selected for drilling at the Molopo Farms Complex project, which it owns jointly with Kalahari Key Minerals.
