Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) has hit further massive nickel-copper sulphides in diamond drilling at Mawson prospect within the Rockford Project in WA’s Fraser Range, including three intercepts totalling 12.4-metres.
These three massive sulphide intercepts were within 21.6 metres from 217.5 metres in the lower interval of diamond hole RKDD011.
“An outstanding result”
The 12.4-metres returned in the lower zone has been described by Legend’s managing director Mark Wilson as “an outstanding result”.
Another zone, the upper interval, was also intersected in this hole, returning 15 metres of vein, breccia, disseminated, semi-massive nickel-copper sulphides from 129.25 metres.
Shares open higher
Shares opened around 16% higher at 21 cents and reached a new 12-month high of 21.5 cents.
Wilson said: “We have drilled three further holes since we first reported to market on hole 8 on March 31, 2020 - holes 9, 10 and 11.
“Hole 11, which was drilled 20 metres north of hole 8, has hit 12.4 metres of massive nickel-copper sulphides within a 21.6-metre mineralised intercept.
“The process we will follow is as per hole 8, with structural logging before the samples are sent for assay and downhole EM happening as we speak.
“The assay results should be available in 3-4 weeks and are eagerly awaited.”
High expectations
He said: “Our expectation is they will be every bit as good as those reported on April 21, 2020, from hole 8.”
The lower sulphide interval from 217.5 metres in hole 11.
Results have been received from three further diamond holes at Mawson totalling 1,195.1 metres with those from hole 11 being strongest.
These holes were testing a combination of geophysical and geochemical targets.
DHTEM surveying
Downhole electromagnetic (DHTEM) surveying has been completed in holes 10 and 11 while this is planned in hole 11 over the next five days.
The two broad intervals intersected in hole 11 are visually similar to those observed in hole 8.

While not intersecting massive sulphides at depth, hole 10 provided a good platform for DHTEM, defining a strong 50,000-60,000S off-hole conductor which was targeted by hole 11 and intersected in that hole’s lower sulphide interval.
The DHTEM also identified an off-hole response related to the upper sulphide interval in hole 11 and a third deeper off-hole DTHEM response (7,500-10,000S) yet to be tested.
Hole 9 intersected sporadic minor disseminated sulphide throughout and DHTEM surveying did not identify any in-hole features, however, defined a moderate 1,000-1,500S off-hole conductor, which is yet to be tested.
Drilling continuing
Diamond drilling is continuing at Mawson with infill aircore drilling also taking place across the greater Mawson area.
Wilson added: “Meanwhile, the rig has moved onto hole 12 and we have several further holes ready to go prior to our analysis of the hole 11 data providing the next step-out drill target.”
Geological and geophysical data from diamond holes 9-11 will be integrated into the Mawson 3D geological model.
