VR Education surges as it signs partnership to use ENGAGE for US homeschooling

The deal with VR and AR group VictoryXR will see the firm import its school curriculum content library onto ENGAGE for use by US school children

VR Education Holdings PLC (LON:VRE) has signed a partnership deal with US firm VictoryXR for use of the company’s ENGAGE platform.

The virtual reality (VR) group said VictoryXR, which specialises in developing science curriculum content and virtual animal dissections both in VR and augmented reality (AR), will import its content library onto ENGAGE and provide its services remotely to school children across the US as part of a revenue share agreement.

VictoryXR has created over 240 unique VR and AR learning experiences across 50 different learning units, VR Education said, adding that educators will also run live virtual classes via ENGAGE while additional education content from VictoryXR will be available to replay via the platform.

In a statement, VR Education’s chief executive David Whelan said that while the US home school market was already “quite significant” with over 2.5mln home school students, the coronavirus pandemic meant the number was “likely to accelerate quickly as students and parents become familiar with working online at home”.

“At a difficult time for education across the globe, ENGAGE provides a fantastic solution for distance learning and through this partnership with VictoryXR we are now able to provide services and content that go beyond anything previously offered within traditional educational programmes, not only in the US but globally", he added.

In a separate announcement, VR Education also said it has appointed Shard Capital Partners as joint broker with immediate effect.

Shares in VRE surged 29% to 10p in early trading on Tuesday.
