Land Securities agrees rent deferrals, relief to clients

The property investor and developer had £1.2bn in cash and available facilities as of 31 March

Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) said it is agreeing on rent deferrals with “many” retail and leisure occupiers.

It also established an £80mln relief fund to support smaller businesses.

The FTSE 100-listed landlord said most of its shopping centres and hotels in the portfolio were closed while offices were operating on a reduced service.

Around 65% of the rent due on 25 March was paid by 31 March compared with 96% in the same period last year.

The property investor and developer had £1.2bn in cash and available facilities as of 31 March, though it cancelled the third interim dividend due for payment on 9 April to save more cash as the coronavirus outbreak develops.

Analysts at Liberum said shares currently trade at a 59% discount to net asset value while the sector is trading at a 15% discount.

Shares were flat at 526.2p on Thursday morning.
