OptiBiotix said this latest commercial accord de-risked the business in the event of a hard Brexit, providing a source of product supply within the EU.
“[It] helps us lower the cost of trade, support our existing and future European distributors and build contingency in the supply chain which is a key requirement from large commercial partners who do not want to be single-sourced,” said Dr Fred Narbel, head of the company’s prebiotics division in a statement.
Fipros also has the relevant accreditation to export to China if required.
The deal is the latest in a series of commercial tie-ups that has seen OptiBiotix build significant commercial traction.
As well as weight management products and functional food additives, the company has developed compounds that tackle obesity, diabetes and skin conditions.
All target the human microbiome, an ecosystem of bacteria, fungi and other microbes that resides in the gut and on the skin.
