Afarak Group PLC (LON:AFRK) has informed investors that it will be required to put its operations under ‘care and maintenance’ as South Africa prepares for a 21-day lockdown to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
In a statement, the London-listed miner noted that the South African National Coronavirus Command Council will enforce the lockdown from midnight Thursday 26 March.
The lockdown will, among other measure, impact companies whose operations require continuous processes such as furnaces and underground mine operations, Afarak said.
“These measures are engaging also the operations of Afarak Group in South Africa and, accordingly, a specific plan is being developed by the company in order to cope with these extraordinary measures and preserve the health and safety of the workers and the population,” it said.
