SThree sees “robust” demand but cannot predict coronavirus hit

Group net fees were flat in the first quarter though contract work went up

Recruiter SThree PLC (LON:STEM) said demand for science, technology, engineering and maths staff (STEM) remains “robust” despite coronavirus disruption.

The firm said it is “difficult” to predict the potential impact and continues to monitor the situation.

Group net fees were flat in the quarter to 29 February, usually the quietest season.

Contract net fees, now accounting for 75% of the business, rose by 2%.

Permanent net fees declined 6% in the quarter, due to weak performances in Japan, US and UK.

Last year’s £12mln net debt swung to net cash of £9mln.

Analysts at house broker Liberum cut the target price to 400p from 480p, while net cash forecast was slashed to £2.9mln from £14.9mln.

Shares dropped 10% to 227.5p on Monday at the opening bell.
