NMC Health probe uncovers “suspected fraudulent behaviour”

Revelations might not come as a surprise after the discovery of a US$2.7bn black hole in accounts and major shareholder shenanigans

Evidence of “suspected fraudulent behaviour” has been uncovered at NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), though this is not such a big surprise as it comes a day after the hospital operator unearthed US$2.7bn of previously unknown debt facilities.

The UAE-based group said on Thursday that an independent law firm, working with the firm of former FBI director Louis Freeh, have “discovered evidence leading to suspected fraudulent behaviour in relation to some elements of NMC's previous financial activities”.

NMC, which is being investigated by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, said it has notified authorities in the UK and UAE of the new developments.

It said management were still working with advisers to sort out its debts and that talks with lenders were ongoing after doubts emerged over its existing borrowing facilities due to changes in the stakes owned by revealed key shareholders BR Shetty, Khaleefa Bin Butti and Saeed Bin Butti.
