Qataris up stake in British Airways owner to 25%

Qatar Airways Group has increased its shareholding in British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines (LON:IAG) to 25.1% from 21.4%.

Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Air’s group chief executive, said: "Our investment to date has been highly successful and the announced increase in our shareholding is evidence of our continued support of IAG and its strategy."

IAG is undergoing a period of transition with Willie Walsh to retire as chief executive on 26 March after fifteen years at the helm of the European airline group that also owns Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus.

Luis Gallego, currently Iberia chief executive, will succeed Walsh.

Shares rose 0.7% to 636.4p.
