Sainsbury’s Bank chairman steps down

The news comes a month after the group's chief executive Mike Coupe announced his retirement

J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) has announced the chair of its banking division, Roger Davis, is to step down for undisclosed reasons.

Davis has been in the post since May 2013, when the bank became wholly owned by Sainsbury's and established its own regulated governance structure.

The company will now begin the search for a successor.

The news comes a month after the chief executive of the FTSE 100-listed grocer Mike Coupe said he would retire from the board after six years.

Coupe oversaw Sainsbury's acquisitions of Argos and Nectar and the sale of its pharmacy business, as well as a failed merger with Asda last year.

He will be replaced by Simon Roberts, set to take over mid-year.
