NMC Health baffled by latest share price plunge

The hospital operator said the independent review by private investigators into the allegations made by short-sellers Muddy Waters “is proceeding”

NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) said on Tuesday that it knew of “no specific reason” for the huge tumble in its share price a day earlier that saw its stock down more than 22% in the late afternoon.

Over the last few months, the Middle East-focused hospital operator has been hit by an attack from short-seller Muddy Waters and by its major shareholders selling large chunks of their stakes.

Last week, shareholders Khalifa Butti Bin Omeir and Saeed Bin Butti Al Qebaisi, also known as Khalifa Butti al-Muhairi and Saeed Mohamed al-Qebaisi, sold one lot of shares for £55.8mln and another for £16.9mln, having warned earlier in the month that they needed to sell a £373mln stake in order to cover their debts.

NMC said in a brief statement on Tuesday that the independent review by private investigators at Freeh Group into the allegations from Muddy Waters “is proceeding”.

“The company's operations continue to perform strongly and the company expects to report full-year 2019 results in-line with management's expectations,” it added.
