NexTech AR Solutions Corp (OTCMKTS:NEXCF) (CSE:NTAR) has beefed up its augmented reality offerings by adding the Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) exclusive .USDZ 3D file type to its arsenal.
The .USDZ file type leverages the Quick Look feature on Mac computers, which allows users to preview files by hitting the spacebar without needing to run an application to open them. That same technology can be used to engage with AR content.
“It has become clear to us that to work with Apple Business Chat and Quick Look which our partner LivePerson is integrated with, we needed our platform to convert files to the .USDZ file format,” CEO Evan Gappelberg said. “This enhancement also expands our ability to provide engaging AR experiences from SMS messaging, Facebook Messenger and Apple Business Chat on iPhones.”

The .USDZ file type was launched in 2018 by Apple and Pixar and give developers another tool to create 3D augmented reality assets for iPhones, Macs and other Apple products.
NexTech previously relied exclusively on the GTLF file format, a creation of a consortium of companies including Adobe, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Google known as the Khronos Group. NexTech joined the exploratory group in 2019.
