Oncimmune joins Oxford-based liver cancer diagnostic consortium

The programme, brought together by the Oxford Centre for Early Cancer Detection, aims to understand how the liver changes while the tumour develops

Oncimmune Holdings PLC (LON:ONC) has joined a consortium of leading companies, charities and academics researching the early detection of liver cancer.

The programme, brought together by the Oxford Centre for Early Cancer Detection (OxCODE), aims to understand how the liver changes while tumours develop.

The research will help develop new and more sensitive diagnostic tests that can detect the disease earlier.

Cancer Research UK awarded £2.5mln to the chief investigator of the programme, Professor Ellie Barnes.

“Our participation in this consortium further demonstrates our success of being recognised as a world-leading immunodiagnostic group focused on earlier cancer detection,” said Oncimmune’s chief executive Adam Hill in a release.

“Through this programme and our expertise, better techniques will be developed and executed in order to diagnose liver cancer at an earlier stage giving patients a greater chance of survival,” he added.

The consortium includes researchers from numerous other universities, the British Liver Trust and Hepatitis C Trust charities and Roche Diagnostics, Perspectum Diagnostics and IPDx.

OxCODE is based at Oxford University and specifically focused on the early detection of cancer.
