Rockfire Resources PLC (LON: ROCK) has started a new round of drilling at the Plateau gold project in Queensland.
The aim is to expand on gold mineralisation encountered recently in earlier drilling, in particular at hole BPL025, where an intercept of 177 metres grading 0.5 grams per tonne gold was returned.
The drilling will also aim to extend the near-surface gold resources at Plateau.
Around 1,500 metres of reverse circulation drilling is planned, across 13 proposed drill holes
The drill program is expected to take approximately 15 days to complete, with analysis to follow the completion of drilling.
"This current drill program is a very exciting one, as we are testing at depth to the east of hole BPL025, which was a very successful hole,” said David Price, chief executive of Rockfire.
“Success with this follow-up drilling will demonstrate significant extension of this deep gold mineralisation in an east-west orientation. A second aim of the current program is to expand and build greater confidence in the gold mineralisation at our near-surface JORC resource, in an effort to define an open cut resource, 80 metres from surface."
