Greggs PLC (LON:GREG) has chosen Just Eat PLC to handle deliveries of its pastry and bakery ranges across the UK.
The Newcastle-based bakery chain has been a star stock market performer over the past year as demand has soared for its vegan sausage rolls, steak bakes, breakfast deals and coffee.
Now its growing legion of fans won’t even have to get off the sofa as Just East will deliver for a fixed fee of £1.50.
The service will kick-off in Birmingham and Bristol this week while London, Newcastle and Glasgow will see the existing trial arrangement greatly expanded.
Just Eat beat competition from Deliveroo, Uber Eats and others to win the contract, which comes just days after its £5.9bn merger with Dutch rival Takeway.com was confirmed.
Deliveries will start in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham in a few months, following which customers will be able to vote for new towns for the service, though Saltash in Cornwall is unlikely to be on the list anytime soon.
The outlet at the Saltash Services station was its only outlet in the country but has just shut after a barrage of criticism from local pasty eaters.
