General mining & base metals

S&P/ASX 200 trading at all-time highs around 6,920

S&P 500 Index closed up 0.67% while the Nasdaq Composite closed up 0.81% with both indices hitting all-time highs.

S&P/ASX 200 (INDEXASX:XJO) (ASX:XJO) is trading at all-time highs up 0.65% or 44.9 points higher at 6,919.1 at 11.03am AEST.

All sectors are green except Materials, which is down 0.4% and represented by the miners including BHP (ASX:BHP) , Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), Fortescue Metals (ASX:FMG) and Newcrest (ASX:NCM).

Pre-market: S&P/ASX 200 futures see Aussie market at new all-time highs

ASX 200 futures are suggesting our market trades at new all-time highs today after the ASX 200 closed at an all-time high yesterday of 6,874.2.

The S&P 500 Index (INDEXSP:.INX) closed up 21.65 or +0.67% to 3,274.70 and the Nasdaq Composite (INDEXNASDAQ: .IXIC) closed up 74.18 or +0.81% to 9,203.43.

Our market will also be supported by recent weakness in the AUDUSD, which remains lower at 0.6856.

Oil and gold prices reflect markets are comfortable with the US Iran situation with gold down 0.5% to US$1,552 per ounce and Crude Oil WTI at US$59.62 per barrel.

Monthly retail sales data at 11.30am

At 11.30am today, The Australian Bureau of Statistics will release monthly retail sales data for November 2019.

It's the primary gauge of consumer spending, which accounts for the majority of overall economic activity.

The data measure the change in the total value of inflation-adjusted sales at the retail level and the forecast is for +0.4%.
