Wizz Air flies into Middle East with Abu Dhabi deal

Wizz Air Holdings - Wizz Air reaches agreement to establish Abu Dhabi operations

Wizz Air Holdings PLC (LON:WIZZ) said it has reached an agreement with Abu Dhabi's state-owned development agency to establish operations in the emirate.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the FTSE 250-listed company’s first airline outside of Europe, is expected to launch in the second half of 2020 and will provide access to potential travellers across Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Africa.

This comes as the central and eastern Europe-focused carrier continues to grow passenger numbers on its existing routes, with December booked passengers surging 25% to 3.3bn compared to the same month a year ago, while capacity grew 24% to 3.7bn.

Total emissions were 23% higher at 324,437 tonnes, while CO2 emitted per passenger/kilometres of 59.5 grams was down 2% compared to December 2018.

Revenue passenger kilometres, which is the number of revenue-paying passengers multiplied by the distance travelled, rose 20% to 65.1bn in the year to December 2019 compared to the previous years.
