Tekcapital's Lucyd Ltd files patents for bluetooth glasses line

The new line of bluetooth glasses with removable front plates is expected to premiere in the first half of 2020

Lucyd Ltd, the smartglass developer owned by Tekcapital PLC (LON:TEK), has filed five new patents and a trademark on its upcoming line of Bluetooth audio glasses.

The Lucyd Loox line of glasses will offer Bluetooth features on its eyewear, as well as “fashion-focused” features that allow wearers to easily remove the front of the glasses, in order to alter the style and lenses.

Tekcapital said in an update on Tuesday that Lucyd plans to produce new shapes and patterns over time to suit a large range of personal styles and needs, such as blue light blocking lenses and prescription sunglasses, which will be “significantly more cost effective than a full new pair of Bluetooth glasses”.

Four design patents and one utility patent have been filed, covering hinge mechanisms and front frame combinations that “allow the front plate exchange to be done in seconds without any tools”.

Lucyd is expecting to introduce the new line in the first half of next year.

“In addition, we believe Lucyd's intellectual property will enable their planned implementation of GaaS (Glasses-as-a-Service) system, where customers can update the look of their glasses with new front plates anytime for a small monthly fee,” said the intellectual property investor, saying this may include tiered insurance levels for the glasses, discounts on new products, and a cash-back referral program.

Dr Clifford Gross, executive chairman at Tekcapital, said that he believed the new development could result in “increased recurring revenues and enhanced customer acquisition and retention for Lucyd, similar to other SaaS businesses".
