Rimfire Pacific Mining NL (ASX:RIM) has completed a second phase of drilling at the Southern Areas of the company’s Fifield Exploration Licences in Central West NSW.
Results from the 22 aircore holes will be used in conjunction with phase I results to guide final planning and drill hole locations for the third phase of drilling that is expected to begin in the new year.
Samples from the phase II program totalling 783 metres have been sent to the laboratory with results expected in January 2020 after QAQC checks are complete.
Samples for geochemical analysis
The program also obtained volcanic and intrusive bedrock samples for whole rock geochemical analysis to allow Rimfire to make an assessment on characterisation of magma and similarity of rocks in the Southern Area to Ordovician Macquarie Arc volcanism.
This hosts significant deposits within the same region, including Cowal (gold) and Northparkes (copper-gold), which are being mined successfully.

Rimfire’s managing director Craig Riley said: “If the Southern Area rock samples have a similar geochemical signature to the Macquarie Arc Ordovician volcanism it will strengthen the interpretation that the Southern Area includes rocks similar to host rocks at Cowal and Northparkes.
“These results in combination with assay results from aircore drilling will be used to rank the area’s potential for significant gold or copper/gold mineralisation.”
The phase II drilling obtained regional bedrock lithological, geochemical and alteration samples from a highly prospective area.
Planning next phase
After all results are reviewed, drill locations for the third phase of the aircore program will be finalised and government and landowner approvals will be sought.
This phase of drilling is expected to begin in early 2020.
