Emmerson Resources Limited (ASX:ERM) has been named as a finalist for the 2019 Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) Community Contribution Award.
The nomination recognises Emmerson’s contribution to the communities around its exploration projects in the Lachlan Fold Belt of New South Wales including Whatling Hill, Kiola, Kadungle and Wellington.
It also acknowledges the company’s efforts to assist drought-stricken farmers John and Carol Whatling with securing additional water supply for their Whatling Hill farm.
As part of a recent drill campaign, Emmerson funded a water bore on John’s property, which is now pumping 1,000 litres every 20 minutes and has opened the possibility of irrigation for cropping purposes.
Focused on building relationships
Managing director and CEO Rob Bills said the company was focused on building mutually beneficial and respectful relationships with local farmers and communities prior to the commencement and during exploration activities.
“Forging strong, direct relationships at a local level in and around our exploration projects is critical, particularly with local landholders.
“When this means we’re able to assist great local people like John and Carol Whatling to get their property through a period of drought, there’s a great sense of satisfaction from both sides.
“To have Emmerson nominated for this award alongside the likes of Fortescue, Sandfire and Westgold Resources just goes to show that even smaller companies can have a big impact in their communities.”
“Widespread support”
Exploration manager Dr Ana Liza Cuison said early engagement and demonstrated community support had led to mutually beneficial results for all parties involved.
“Our community engagement strategy has been effective in creating widespread support for our exploration programs throughout regional NSW.”
The final chapter of this mutually beneficial relationship has yet to play out, as Emmerson recently announced it was drilling a deep diamond drill hole to test for copper and gold beneath the drought-ravaged pastures.
The winner of AMEC’s Community Contribution Award will be announced at the 2019 AMEC Awards Dinner in Perth, Western Australia, on Thursday, December 5.
