St George Mining hits 17-metre nickel-copper sulphide intersection

The 17.28-metre intersection will be sent to the lab for assaying and down-hole EM will be conducted to look for nearby targets.

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) has received preliminary drill results for hole MAD172 drilled at the Investigators prospect within the Mt Alexander Project in Western Australia.

While lab assays are pending, visual inspection shows the hole intersected 17.28 metres of nickel-copper sulphides from 242.5 metres downhole.

Notably, the style of mineralisation intersected is consistent with mineralisation remobilised from a larger and proximal source of nickel-copper sulphides.

A down-hole electromagnetic (DHEM) survey will be completed in MAD172 later this week, and follow-up drilling will be prioritised after review of the survey data.

Potential for nearby similar mineralisation

St George’s executive chairman John Prineas said: “Deeper drilling has already confirmed significant down-plunge extensions of the mineralised ultramafic and now – with MAD172 – we have seen the deepest intersection of nickel-copper sulphides at the Cathedrals Belt to date.

“The thickness of the mineralised intercept and the style of mineralisation support the potential for further high-grade mineralisation to be present in this area.

Larger deposits likely at depth

“Under the intrusive geological model for the Cathedrals Belt, the larger deposits of mineralisation are likely to be at deeper levels than explored to date, so it is very exciting to see the thickness of nickel-copper sulphides increasing with depth.

“We are increasingly confident that ongoing drilling could discover further significant nickel-copper sulphides down-plunge of the shallow high-grade deposits already established at the Cathedrals Belt.”

MAD172 tested first of 7 targets

MAD172 was completed to test the first of the seven EM conductors identified so far by the recent DHEM surveys.

Deeper drilling of areas peripheral to the strong surface EM data including MAD172 has now confirmed that significant mineralisation continues at depth.

Diamond drilling is continuing with MAD173 currently in progress at Investigators.
